The Introvert's Way: Living a Quiet Life in a Noisy World
by Sophia Dembling
As research for my class later this month, Ms. Dembling's recent book provided insight into introversion as a part of the online phenomenon. She also succinctly explained why I dislike talking on the phone. No really - each chapter is a maximum of three pages. Pick + choose the topics that interest you. The tone of the book is more conversational and sarcastic than I prefer.
One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are
by Ann Voskamp
A book I've wanted to read for awhile, I'm finally picking up with a women's bible study at my church. I'm only two chapters in - but there were tears through chapter one.
The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God
by Timothy Keller
Everyone, married or single, should read this book. I wish I had read it 5 or 10 years ago.

I'm curious - what is her explanation for why you don't like to talk on the phone? Because I don't like to either - never have! It's always seemed slightly ridiculous to me, like, why can't I enjoy talking on the phone like a regular person?! :-)
ReplyDeleteShe made a few great points -
Deletethe phone is a bossy gadget that interrupts.
you can easily get trapped in a meaningless conversation with no way out.
introverts take longer to process and respond, but pauses aren't acceptable in phone conversations.
chatters tend to talk right over you.
Thank you for sharing these Lindsey! I can't wait to read books 2 and 3! I think I'd like reading the second one with a group as well. I might suggest it to my girls' group at church.
ReplyDeleteI've loved doing it with a group of girls. I'm getting a lot more out of the book than if I was reading it alone.
DeleteLove One Thousand gifts and do a lot of blogging related to it over at my blog Simple Gifts. Will have to check out the other books!
ReplyDeleteI'm about to read The Meaning of Marriage! My mentor bought it for me, and even though I'm 100% single right now, I am so excited to learn more about marriage, the way God designed it to be!
ReplyDeleteWorking on Tim Keller's book now. Heard only good things about it. As a newlywed it's a good read!
